The Dell Inspiron 5391 looks and acts like a pricier ultraportable. Dell smartly deployed enough aluminum in its construction to make it feel more like an upscale laptop than a plastic budget model.

Add the razor-thin screen bezels, and you have an attractive, compact ultraportable that certainly looks tonier than its sub-$700 price. The base model with a Core i5 chip, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB SSD might leave you wanting more, but my test config turned in impressive application performance, hanging with ultraportable that cost hundreds more. I just wish the display were brighter and Dell offered a 512GB SSD. And you can call me a traditionalist, but I’d trade the silver screen bezels and keys for basic black.
